Advanced Oral Hygiene is a combination of two bacterial strains that target most of the aspects of oral health. The blend contains two patented microorganisms from two different manufacturers, GanedenBC30, (Bacillus coagulans GBI-30, 6086), and Streptococcus salivarius K12.
GanedenBC30 is manufactured by Ganeden Biotech, Inc, and it has many peer-reviewed published studies to support its efficiency. GanedenBC30 works in your mouth by competing with pathogenic bacteria, and eliminating it. Your gums and teeth will have the chance to repair themselves, without bad bacteria. That is not all, this amazing strain is also very effective for your tummy, and there are enough scientific studies to confirm these claims. I couldn't find any published studies about its efficacy in oral health, even though the patent awarded to Ganeden Biotech says that it promote digestive and oral health and support the immune system. Ganeden proved efficient in reducing IBS symptoms, reducing abdominal gas, keeping in control C. diff, and other in other digestive system conditions.
GanedenBC30 is a soil based organism, and it is very stable in a harsh environment. Many soil based organism probiotics are suspected for serious side effects. This only happens in a small number of people, but some can get an infection with SBOs. Here is a one year study on the toxicity of GanedenBC30. The study concluded that the SBO was safe for consumption.
BLIS K12 - Streptococcus salivarius K12
S. Salivarius K12 is a specific strain only found in the oral microbiota of only 2% of the population. This strain was isolated by BLIS Technologies, LLC from New Zealand, and named BLIS K12. BLIS K12 is very efficient in fighting pathogens by secreting a substance that inhibits them, and it is safe for humans. This probiotic strain is pretty amazing, helping us fight throat, ear, and mouth infections, and reduce bad breath bacteria. I can personally vouch for BLIS K12. With one pill per day, I managed to reduce my 6 years old son's seasonal infections to only minor nuisances. He didn't have to miss one school day because of flu or common cold.
If you need some scientific reviews for S. Salivarius K12 here is one attesting its efficiency on bad breath, and here is the scientific confirmation on efficiency in the prevention of throat and ear infections.
Here is the list of other ingredients: xylitol, mannitol, microcrystalline cellulose, natural spearmint and cherry flavors, stearic acid, maltodextrin, stevia extract, silica, croscarmellose sodium, vegetable stearate.
My only concern from this list are the two sugar-alcohols, the xylitol and mannitol. While on a short term sugar alcohols cannot be processed by pathogen microorganisms in our mouth, studies have shown that starting from the day 7 of daily intake, these microorganisms adapt and start to ferment xylitol and other sugar alcohols. Xylitol is great for fighting oral infections, and I used it with success, however, prolonged use might not be as safe as touted.
